Product Introduction

A colorless to pale-yellow viscous liquid (typically ~60–70 % in toluene) that solidifies at low temperatures. VITRIDE is a powerful, non-pyrophoric hydride reducing agent favored for selectively reducing diverse functional groups in organic synthesis

Physical & Chemical Properties

Property Value
Appearance (70% soln) Colorless to pale-yellow viscous liquid
Density @ 25 °C ~1.036 g/mL
Viscosity (70%) ~65 cP
Solid density ~1.122 g/cm³
Solubility Soluble in toluene, THF, ethers; reacts violently with water
Stability Air- and moisture-sensitive; thermally stable <200 °C

Applications

  • Selective reduction of epoxides, aldehydes, ketones, esters, acids, nitriles, amides, nitroaromatics, etc.
  • Useful in pharmaceutical, polymer crosslinking, & polyvinylsilane dehydrocoupling chemistry

Safety & Handling

  • Highly flammable and moisture-reactive; produces H₂ gas on contact with water. Corrosive and a skin irritant. Non-pyrophoric. Handle under inert (N₂/Ar) dry conditions with full PPE in a fume hood. Store in sealed, moisture-free containers at cool temperatures. GHS: H225, H302, H314.
